Who doesn’t fancy a 4 hour Meisner workout on a Saturday afternoon, followed by a drink at the Three Johns?
Quite a few people, I imagine.
But for those who do, it’ll be a blast.
Developed by Sanford Meisner at the Neighbourhood Playhouse in New York between the 1930s and 1980s, the Meisner Technique is a fluid, dynamic approach to acting. Rather than relying on an intellectual interpretation of a scene, it encourages actors to respond truthfully and playfully to one another, discovering fresh moments in real time.
You’ll receive your script a week in advance and be encouraged to learn your lines as well as you can (though there’s no pressure at all). We’ll begin with some repetition exercises before diving into the cut and thrust of the scene.
Alongside a fun, connected and altogether well-spent afternoon, you may also:
– Develop greater instinct and freedom as an actor
– Deepen your connection to yourself and your scene partners
– Practise letting go of control and responding in the moment
– Explore what genuinely motivates and moves you
– Experience the joy of authentic, moment-to-moment connection
To ensure everyone gets plenty of time on their feet, the workshop is limited to 12 participants.
